Volunteer - The Surf Relief Festival Needs Help!

Organisers of the Surf Relief Festival are seeking volunteers to be part of country’s only surfing and live music festival on a beach. Help is needed to manage the site and ensure the smooth running of the event on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th July 2009.

Event organiser Phil Williams of Christian Surfers UK said: “We’re looking for people who can contribute some of their time to help us with a wide range of functions across the site, from marshalling traffic and pedestrians, assisting with car parking duties, and helping with beach-based sports activities. Volunteers can pick the times that they are available to help in what will be a really fun and different event.”

Volunteers are needed to help between 7am and 6pm on Friday 17th July, and from 7am to 9pm on Saturday 18th July. Anyone interested in taking part should contact Phil Williams on 07774 138143 or e-mail phil@christiansurfers.co.uk

Ommmmm

OM Surf International exists for the purpose of funding world changing projects. Project OM is the main beneficiary of 10% of the profits from OM International products.

Project OM serves disadvantaged teens. The program teaches history, anthropology, ecology and environmental awareness. Participants visit different locales around the world and participate in the process of learning and teaching different cultures, human awareness and love for all of humanity. Teens learn language, cooking, resourcefulness, teamwork, and global awareness. In return the teens participate in community service projects at the locales visited.

Sounds good to us! They have a range of cool tshirts as well and we hope they'll expand to the UK in the future.

Morsbags

Check out Morsbags where you can join people in making re-usable shopping bags.

If you don’t live in an area where you can get cute bags from the council, if you want to coax (force!) family and friends to re-use shopping bags, if you want something more original than a Bag For Life (or a trendy but dubiously-sourced enviro-bag) make one of these from an old sheet/duvet/curtain!

Definitely the simplest sewing pattern I've ever seen and you’ll be saving the planet and its wildlife as well as space in the kitchen where you hide all those old placcy bags…

surf photos exhibition

Archie Brown's Cafe in Penzance is showing part one of the 2007 'Wave Selection' project. Greg Martin's photos are first up and include shots taken from the freezing waters of the Outer Hebrides, the warm beaches of Portugal and the hidden gems of Cornwall. 25% of all sales will be going to Surfers Against Sewage.

Check out more on BBC Cornwall or MagicSeaweed. These are lush photos!
