SurfGirl has scored a guest blogger or two recently - here's the first of them, Amy Brock-Morgan from Penryn, Cornwall.

French surfer girl clip

'SURFER GIRL is a clip on surfing. More specifically, the atmosphere in a small group of 5 surfer girls on a road trip. Born of the desire to make beautiful pictures, this clip to play with all the aesthetic environment brought by surfing.'

Pretty cool, if you can stand the for-the-boys rubbing of suntan lotion/wax and getting changed shots… Stars Emmanuelle Joly, 6-time European Champion (who seems to be pretty much the only one who actually surfs). Also has a serious message, so watch to the end.

National Trust gets cool

The National Trust own half the coastline (or so it seems!) and Porthleven surf girl Robyn Davies has just got a job with them to promote surfing and the National Trust together. If that sounds a bit confusing, well, we're confused too, but rest assured we're going to get to the bottom of it! We hope to get some more info out of Robyn and will let you know all about it in the next SurfGirl.

The next issue is due out in the middle of April and we're slaving away on it now. It's going to be amazing!

surf like a girl

LA-produced Surf Like A Girl is a webzine that celebrates girls who surf, skate, and snowboard. Aside from the dodgy acronym the name transforms into (maybe the Americans don't use the term?) this is a fun website, and they've recenty added loads of green-themed stuff. This is an area SurfGirl wants to expand on our own website, but in the meantime, take a look at their ideas:

'New features on the website offer advice on green living for environmentally conscious boarders, with tips in the “Ask Betty” column, plus suggestions from Surfrider Foundation and Heal the Bay. The “In the Know” news section includes reports on global warming, eco-friendly surfboards and other goods, and the travel feature is devoted to eco travel options. Additionally, Carissa Moore, the subject of this month’s interview with a pro boarder, answers questions on living green, and the “Splurge!” shopping column includes items that are all eco-friendly.'

Check out Morsbags where you can join people in making re-usable shopping bags.

If you don’t live in an area where you can get cute bags from the council, if you want to coax (force!) family and friends to re-use shopping bags, if you want something more original than a Bag For Life (or a trendy but dubiously-sourced enviro-bag) make one of these from an old sheet/duvet/curtain!

Definitely the simplest sewing pattern I've ever seen and you’ll be saving the planet and its wildlife as well as space in the kitchen where you hide all those old placcy bags…

surf photos exhibition

Archie Brown's Cafe in Penzance is showing part one of the 2007 'Wave Selection' project. Greg Martin's photos are first up and include shots taken from the freezing waters of the Outer Hebrides, the warm beaches of Portugal and the hidden gems of Cornwall. 25% of all sales will be going to Surfers Against Sewage.
