Volunteer - The Surf Relief Festival Needs Help!

Organisers of the Surf Relief Festival are seeking volunteers to be part of country’s only surfing and live music festival on a beach. Help is needed to manage the site and ensure the smooth running of the event on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th July 2009.

Event organiser Phil Williams of Christian Surfers UK said: “We’re looking for people who can contribute some of their time to help us with a wide range of functions across the site, from marshalling traffic and pedestrians, assisting with car parking duties, and helping with beach-based sports activities. Volunteers can pick the times that they are available to help in what will be a really fun and different event.”

Volunteers are needed to help between 7am and 6pm on Friday 17th July, and from 7am to 9pm on Saturday 18th July. Anyone interested in taking part should contact Phil Williams on 07774 138143 or e-mail phil@christiansurfers.co.uk

Boardmasters 08

Fistral this morning, looking good.

There's no girls' competition this year, but with clean four foot waves today and four of our GB boys still in the running, it's a good event. You can see live action on mpora.com.

If you're going to the beach, say hello at the Carve stall, and if you're going to Unleashed fest, check out the Carve chillout tent…might be invaluable with the rain forecast on Saturday!

Roxy Jam on TV

Girls surfing on TV! SG Editor Louise Searle went along to the Roxy Jam and this should be a good programme. Watch out for our writeup in the next issue of SurfGirl, out at the start of August.

Boomerang+, a leading independent TV production group, teamed up with Roxy Jam and Channel 4 to film the annual Women’s World Longboard Championship at The Biarritz Roxy Jam Festival in Côtes de Basque, France from 11 to 16 July.

Boomerang+ is producing a 1 x 30min programme for Channel 4 as part of the Freesports on 4; a flagship freesports programme. The Company was in charge of daily coverage of the competition, with satellite news feeds to Roxy Jam website, and daily pod casts of interviews with the surfers. The programme is presented by Ed Leigh, Freesports on 4 presenter and professional surfer, Cassia Meador. The show will be aired on Channel 4 on Sunday 3 August at 8:30am (repeated on C4+1 at 9:30am). The programme has been produced by Dylan Davies.

The Biarritz Roxy Jam Festival combines surfing, art, and music and celebrates the best of women’s surfing from across the world. The Women’s World Longboard Championship saw the world’s top 48 female longboarders competing for the crown. Joy Monahan was crowned this year’s champion and won the $30,000 prize money.
